TP's works this year are congregated in Gallery 2. No coincidence since this was one of the rooms he was responsible for hanging. As mentioned they feature The Library at Elsinore and the pair of Periwinkle weeks. Also Superjew, a collage from American comics. The three prints are together in the left hand corner of the adjacent print room. The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition is open from Monday 11th June until 19th August.

Talking of the Summer Show, and just between ourselves, of course, don't suppose anyone wants to share a view on Michael Sandle's Iraq Triptych? This has been bothering me: I applaud the sentiments and the ambition, but what about the drawing values... What's going on with the figure drawing in the left panel? Why is Blair floating? Am I missing the point / being hopelessly hyper-critical?

Funny you should say that, anonymous, something of the sort bothers me, too, though I always hesitate to judge, as I'm usually wrong. I have similar feelings about T. Emin in Vienna: is the drawing poor, or my judgement? What is it that people praise in her drawings that I can't see? In fact, let's be honest, I have those feelings about much contemporary art, but then I'm just a "petit-bourgeois skill fetishist"... Now that Tom Phillips, he can draw...
